2006 Couples Retreat
Overview

Praise The Lord
for the 2006 Couples Retreat! Thanks to all of you who
participated by your attendance and also to all of you
who prayed for this event.
There were approximately 230 in attendance this year from eight
states and several foreign countries. The Lord blessed with a
time of worship, a time of learning, a
time of fellowship, and a time of
refreshing. The cool crisp weather, the worshipful concert by Calvary Praise, the Saturday
sessions, and the free time made for a wonderful
weekend. Pictures to the left give a glimpse
of activities throughout the weekend.
We were honored to
have several missionary couples along with one special couple from
Romania, Liviu and Ramona Clinciu. Liviu and
Ramona have translated all of our seminar and conference
material for our trips to Romania. What a blessing
to have them visit us here!
The 2007 Couples Retreat will be
held October 19-20 at the same location.
It is not too early to register for next year.
Several couples have already done so. To register

Finances
Todd
Sadowski with Christian Financial Principles
focused on family finances by speaking on family savings
and investing. He defined savings versus
investing and then discussed the reasons to
save and invest. The introduction to investments
covered equities, bonds, and cash along with the
advantages of each. Todd and his wife,
Holly, live in Hot Springs, Arkansas and are
members of Center Fork Baptist Church. They
are proud parents of a new baby girl.
Todd has recently completed a book,
The Christian and HIS Finances
, published by Bogard Press and is available
at the website below or from the
Baptist Sunday School Committee at Texarkana.

Marriage
Every marriage has conflict.
The key to a successful marriage is not to avoid
conflict but to manage conflict in a healthy
manner. Robert Francis explained that there are
five basic conflict styles - withdraw, winning,
yielding, compromise and resolve. The biblical way
to manage conflict in any relationship and particularly
in marriage is to resolve. He then covered eight
biblical steps to resolve conflict in
marriage.
Robert is on staff at East Union
Baptist Church as the Counseling Pastor, is a licensed
certified social worker in Arkansas, and frequently
contracts with the Center for Youth and Family to teach
on family issues. He and his wife, Janice, have
two children, David and Bethany.

Health
Dr. Spann
really challenged everyone in the area of mental health and
Christian living. He emphasized that modern psychology makes the patient
a victim without responsibility for their actions.
Most types of sin have been redefined as illness.
The Bible on the other hand gives hope through
application of biblical principles and surrender to God. Our trials while
painful are used for our ultimate good. After an
overview of basic types of mental and emotional
disorders, he focused on biblical answers through principles
and application.
Dr. Spann and his wife, Kerri, have four
children and are members of First Baptist Church in
Berryville, Arkansas. He has a family practice and heads
Living Waters Retreat , a ministry to missionaries
and pastors.

Parenting
One
of the greatest challenges of parenting is passing on a
Biblical set of values. Two skills, teaching and
discipline, are necessary to accomplish this task.
Larry Fincher
presented what the Bible
has to say about teaching our children values. Deuteronomy chapter six
gives God's plan for teaching by
identifying who the teachers are, what their qualifications must
be, the necessity of a plan, and even the
methods to be used. These methods include instruction, example, and
environment and must be applied in
practical actions.
Larry and Thelnita Fincher are
co-founders of HomeBuilders Ministry and have extensive
experience in teaching, counseling, and working with
families. They have presented seminars and
retreats nationally and internationally. Larry is
the Family Pastor at Rowland Road Baptist Church, Monroe
Louisiana. They have two children and four
grandsons, Fletcher, Luke, Stephen and
Philip.
